A nod to newnan man for his post of a great Thebes he obtained from the late Richard Shivley.

I thought I would post some of the relics I obtained from Richard Shively over the years at the Collinsville Illinois CSAS shows. He was a fellow collector I would spend considerable time talking with. I vividly recall the year I did not find him at the show. I always meant to visit him over in Dayton. That was not too far from where I live and I spend a lot of time over in that area. I regret I did not visit him.

Richard had a fantastic collection of relics.

Here are some relics from his collection.

So there's 2 Hardins, 3 Thebes, 2 Heavy Dutys & 1 Etley--all outstanding pieces. Do you know the material on the first Hardin?

Tony Bakutis you ask Treasure_hunter?

Name sounds familiar but I knew many by face and forgot more than a few names over the years. I talked to a lot of folks there and at the gatherings after hours.

Tdog, The Hardin from Johnson County ILL I think is a patinated Harrison County. I have found a few points made of Harrison County which has a similar surface patination. That Hardin has no damage so the color of the underlying material I can't determine, but like I said from others I would think it's a darker color of Harrison County

NP, was just curious, I picked up one of his pieces in the 90s, a very nice waddlow blade.

I met him once when he came into a shop outside of St Louis I use to buy antique newspapers from. I was personal friends with the owner.

That Hornstone is beautiful material--that piece in particular. I just googled Harrison County chert and found that it is also referred to Wyandotte and Kentucky Blue; correct?

WOW these are FANTASTIC THANK you for posting them

Thanks for posting those outstanding pics. It makes me even more thankful I was able to obtain one of Richard's artifacts. I never met him but he was very well known & highly respected.

Yes, Harrison County is also called Wyandotte chert.

I haven't heard the Kentucky Blue referred to Harrison County before.

I think Senora flint would potentially be the Kentucky Blue more than Harrison County. I have a number of Senora flint relics which some are VERY close to color of Harrison County. Most of my Senora flint were found just east of Litchfield outside of Big Clifty KY. Senora is just off of 65, its a nice small town.

Thanks for all the kind words. I miss spending time with him and learning about his artifacts.
