This is the so called Relic I found , it is sterling silver with gold interior very unusual and little scary . One person told me that it is bad Relic and I should bury this ,better yet I should bury this in Cemetary .But when I talk to a NUN she told me not all relics are bad luck some are good . The question I guess is , Is it relic ? Good or Bad Relic ? I know it is very old for sure but not much else . 001.JPG003.JPG004.JPG

Never heard of a relic being bad luck. If you search theca relic you will see many of them.

"Relics are not amulets or lucky charms but as an instrument for us to be more close to that saint. Relics are placed on a theca. The theca is often in circular shape with designs. Thecas can be made from gold, silver, or metal."

It could be a cremation necklace that contained a pinch of someones ashes, or it might just be a prayer box necklace. Either way, it's a cool find!
I am not a supersticious person, hence I don't subscribe to this "good luck/bad luck" stuff. Your relic is just an object ... but I like it!

Similar to Creskol's suggestion of ashes, in times past a locket of hair from a past loved one wasn't an uncommon thing to have a keepsake.
I'm pretty sure the "Maria" is referring to Mary, as many of these have Jesus / Mary on front and back. Maria is the Latinized version.

Reliquary... That's the word I was looking for. A container to keep human remains in remembrance of cool people.

The pattern appears to be not uncommon, here's a similar item: Mary and Jesus reliquary heart locket by lesjardinsdeleanor
It's not quite as nice though, and perhaps not as old?

Ben is right on, as usual. Here is another one on eBay. It doesn't specify but it appears to contain a bone fragment.

Previously owned by a nun.

Very cool relic, BTW. Not bad luck at all!

I think it's good luck that you found it, rescued it from being lost forever, and it will continue to bring you good luck.

It could be mourning locket, common in the Victorian era which this appears to be from.

The nun may have been referring to fake relics as the bad ones since there are many out there. I've never heard of a "bad" relic.

There are 3 kinds of relics. 1st class relics are parts of a Saints body. 2nd class relics are pieces of things they owned like clothing or books. 3rd class relics are things that have been touched by 1st class relics or the shrine of a Saint.
