I went back to my relic hunting ground and found the following; two musketballs, two buckles, a copper drawer pull, a possible primitive fishing weight and an intact copper bell. The bell almost didn't get dug. It gave a real juicy tone but when I pinpointed it was very shallow...that usually means beer can. I dug anyway and here it was about 2 inches down.

The lead with the hole is neat...it must be a primitive fishing weight but if anyone else has any ideas I am all ears!

The best find was talking to a land owner. He pointed me in the direction of several old homesteads where he advised that several coins had been picked up while gardening. He told me to come back anytime to hunt that area...I plan on doing that real soon!

Lead weights like yours were used for many different reasons, here are a couple:
1) Steel yard weights
2) Spindal weights for spinning (keeping the thread tight)
3) Base of fishing nets (spread evenly along the bottom)

Nice finds!
