UPDATE: NEW PIC OF PLATE

I moistened the figures for better viewing.

PLATE1.jpg

Welp, with the year winding down, I thought I'd try once more before the latest weather comes a stormin' thru. :)

Pretty much a relic day, but I'm starting to get a feel for this "field hunting". Didn't get but two coins, (wheaties). One cleaned up fair, the other one, well it got left in the toaster too long. Someone must not have set the timer on the toaster oven right. ( LOL )

Anyway, the pics pretty much tell the story, just not all of it. ;)

Here ya go;

This is a rather large and heavy piece of bronze/brass.

Don't know if this is an old public use button, military, or maybe, just one out of a mattress. Non-magnetic, dome shape, guessing brass, no markings.

This is my favorite piece for today. Mostly because it surprised me. Was just a rather LARGE, half pound, deep piece of crap when I dug it up. Perched on my trash pile until I noticed the patina. Looked a bit like brass/copper/tin. So, I moved it to my keeper-misc-metals pile. Then, when I get it home and washed off the surface dirt. I saw it the way you see it above.

Then, I turned it over:

Anyone see why I like it now? ;)

After studying this a bit, I'm thinking that it's some sort of printing press plate. It seems to be a tile back with a copper plate on the front.
Anyone else see this?

Anyway, with weather coming in, this may well be the last hunt for 2012 for me. Not too bad a way to finish up, huh. :)

Thanks for peeking!

Just wondering, is the last piece a printing press plate?

Great post.....thanks for taking some excellent pictures. Your button looks to be from the early 1800's to about 1830's or 1840's. Good finds. Tennessee digger

Sorry, Gunny. I wasn't being very clear. The newest picture is the first one in the original post above.

Yep, that's what I see as well. I'm hoping someone will recognize the pattern as a logo or associated with some business. Something tells me this is something good, just not sure why.

Thanks for the help!

Happy New Year!

THERE you are!!! I was wondering where you'd disappeared to, as long as I'm ABLE to dig, I'll keep going. Won't be long before the ground freezes though. :(

This one has really got me! It's yelling at me to figure it out! I have this feeling that it is something good.

If anyone has any good ideas as to how one might go about cleaning an old printer plate, it would be more than welcomed!

Happy New Year, Digger!!
