What else to you hunt for on your outings??

I was generally interested in geology, gemstones, and most recently meteorites.
That prompted me to dig out the old White's 6000-D to help find meteorites.
This then evolved into searching for gold, coins, gemstones, geological oddities,
relics, etc.

What I'd like to know is: What else do you search for on your trips?

Anyone else into meteorites? Bird watching. Learning about trees, etc.??

I'm into:
Rock tumbling, Geology, Gemology (Mineral ID'ing), Archeology, paleontology, Astrology, prospecting and WOMEN.
What I look for:
Rocks -cool/unique/rare etc
Mineral(s) -collector (cool/unique/rare etc)
Relics/artifacts etc
Coins
Fossils (not to much but once in a while)
Meteorites (not to often either)
Silver, Gold, platinum, Rhodium etc
Any kind of Ore(s) can do some cool stuff with it... ;)
Any nice looking women

Might have missed something....Thats all I kan think of now... :)

Other than MDing. I bird watch....hunt for relics & artifacts....fishing....yard sales\thrift shops.....ATV'ing.
 

Prospecting, gemstones and rock hounding in general. I'd like to search for civil war relics but I don't live in the right area for that. :(
 

Rocks, mostly Agates, Jasper. Oh and Driftwood.
Been finding "stuff" all my life. Found a wallet floating in the bay at 8yrs old. Lol, it was my Dad's, fellout when he launched the boat.

Best finds: a silver Thayer1787(I think) in hand full of change at the boat basin. Coin dealer in ElPaso, said it was worth $3.00. Nah I still got it somewhere,in my Silver Bag.

A bracelet for .25 cents. Made of old dimes. Theres a sitting liberty 1877, I think the rest are Canadian dimes. It's a family bracelet with names. Caught my eye coz the name I saw was Maggie(me). It's got little pics carved into it with the names. Ya gotta see it.It's got 1889 carved into the back also. Someone took a lotta time and effort to make this Bracelet. It's a shame it went out of the family it was made for. But I've loved for 25 yrs now!
My ex and I both worked retail, so we've had a chance to buy coins from the til. My best was (4)-Dollars Liberty's dated 1922, sold 2 for a buck each to friends.

My son (21) saw a Liberty Dime on here last night! He was in awe... never seen one! Lol, so I pull out my silver stash and hand him the coin he's drooling over. I love being able to amaze them still, he's 21.
I'll get some pics up so you can see the bracelet....it's amazing!!!

Here in Oregon petrified wood, agates, Oregon jade, and jasper are fairly easy to find in creek beds and gravel/rock quarries, when the coin/jewelry hunting is poor. Mushroom hunting and bird-watching are common too.

Oregon has wild:

Ground dewberries,
Himalayan blackberries,
Salmonberries,
Evergreen blackberries,
Red huckleberries,
Blackcaps (black raspberries),
Thimbleberries,
Elderberies,
Gooseberries,
Oregon grape (berries), two styles,
Wild ground-strawberries,
Native blueberries

And a couple of other berries, the seasons lasting from March through November annually


Fishing weights are easily found here with some detectors, and so are fishing lures too on some river beds. My old Compass Relic & Coin finds roughly twice as many weights as my cz-70 and roughly 4 times as many as my Sov does in the same amount of time. Gold nuggets and wire gold can be found in almost any creek bed in the western States, but wire gold requires a very special nugget detector to find it. The Fisher GB2 and two old Compasses seem to do that job the best of the best..

And of courese there's always beachcombing. Oregon's ocean beaches are all public

I collect dust.

Besides that I love my Civil War Relics and old coins. I fish freshwater for bass and walleyes, lots of pike too.

My best time is with my daughter. That's usually alot because she is with me when I look for Civil War relics and old coins. She is also with me when we fish for bass and walleyes, lots of pike too. ;)
