I hit a spot that has been good to me this morning, after the rains. All summer it's been too dry to hunt there, and when I did try, I damaged a couple of finds...

Not today. I went after everything in the buttery soft soil.

I found some cool British military buttons, and a big copper. I think it's a Cartwheel. I'm out of peroxide at the moment. I'll have to give it a soak once I get some.

Cartwheel?

Fairly modern Canadian Military Button

Toasted Religious Pendant... I can see a cross and an M?

I was going to throw this into the trash pile, but I had to ask. The striations were interesting. Any thoughts? It feels like copper or brass...

Happy hunting!

Once again Gio you're rocking the finds!

Your large copper sure looks like a cartwheel, the thick raised rim is a dead giveaway. The stacked cannons button is an artillery button without a doubt. And finally, the brass tube is a piece of a barrel tap(spigot) it's the part that gets tapped into the bung, tapered for a snug fit.

Ah, a spigot! Right on, Ironhorse. :) Thanks for the ID's.

I guess the boys were having a pint or two, back in the day. Some things never change.

I'd be careful putting that one in the peroxide.... Looks pretty toasted and it may fall apart. Great finds!

Good point. Now that I know what it is, it shall remain uncleaned. :)

A common item at a lot colonial era sites, keep in mind that a lot of things were exported in kegs/barrels wine, liquor, beer, cider, oil, molasses, etc etc

If you don't mind dark buttons lemon juice would do the job on the first two. If you want to leave the green do a few peroxide soaks with brushing, no rinsing, just lay to dry.

Your buttons are growing and will display nicely....

Thanks, IP! They're no officer's buttons. I may as well experiment with your methods. :)

Very cool finds, congrats!

Maybe an experiment for you, but I already know the results. :) It's just a matter of whether you want to keep some green. If you don't mind the dark look using lemon will get them the cleanest showing the most detail.

Nice little selection of buttons there, I'm sure that site will give up goodies for a while!

WTG Gio! Love those buttons! Never dug a Cartwheel before.
