august 1892. Im thinking its a rebar wire tie spool for laying concert but i wouldn't think that old... and the cutter wouldn't be right either. ?? its about 6" x 2" mabe 3" with the handle thing. Its owned by a antique dealer friend of mine.

I'm not so sure on the tie wire spool, though it does kind of look like one in a way. My first thought is some kind of linemans tool, but I really don't know why I think that, and I can't find anything like it.

It looks like a wire or rope guide pulley to me. Without additional context, it's hard to say what it was used for.

I believe the ID is correct, but if this is the right patent, then I think it hangs the other way with the hook part on top.

Good observation and I agree. My pic from the auction is upside down. I actually searched for the patent but couldnt find it.

I wont be reminding anyone to post Green Checks anymore so maybe the practice will just fade away.
