Red,white and blue goldmine manager's office 1890

Hi on my second trip this year,i decided to MD around a mine site. These mine sites where deep lead mines and most of the gold was exstracted by chemicial means after being graded and crushed to a fine sand.Sorry no nuggets to be found here.Red White and Blue was a common name given to the mines in this area. This site i thing was known as Lansell's Red ,White and Blue. I didn,t have much luck in the way of coins either but i did manage to find a

pocket watch winder, gold ore grading check and the ink well was a surface i find. All date from around 1890

Nice finds tinpan. Pity no nuggets :'(

Just curious... but do you find any evidence of the chemical wastes around the old mine sites?

Cheers, Mike

Most of the site has large mounds of grey sand, about 100 feet high and yes there are still levels of toxic chemical in some of them.Per ton of tailing would be low levels of toxic waste. Most of the chemicals where retrieved in the process and reused. I not sure of all the chemicals but mercury was on of them.Yikes real deadly stuff.I have found a few old bottles with traces of mercury in them.I hand those into the local free collection authortiy E.P.A Tax money well spent :) :) :)
