So we went to Treasure Shores beach today. First thing I noticed, lotsa dead fish. Second, ocean looked funny, dark and dirty. Third, nose started running, started coughing. RED TIDE! No, didn't find anything, and didn't stay long. Ambersand is closed as someone said. Wabasso appears to be blocked off because of sharp dropoff at edge. Bonsteel is washing away nicely. Dredge is offshore about mile or 2 south of Sebastian, pumping CRAP onto the beaches.

What a shame, a public disgrace our beaches have become.

Billinstuart,

Dirt Fishin' Dale and I went to RonJons this morning. Red Tide wasn't too bad there. Didn't see any dead fish or sea turtles (thankfully). Only thing bad was the finds. I heard about the beaches down near Wabasso/ Ambersands, etc. And yes, it is a shame what's happening. >:( Anyway, hope you have better luck next time out.

started in Melbourne this morning and drove to Wabasso, red tide got worse the farther South I went but it was a nice drive. Did get on the beach at Wabasso but the sand is Very soft and only found 2 new pennies! Let's pray for some Nor' Easters lol.

I was at Daytoa Beach yesterday, no red tide there. Didn't find much either. Less then a dollar in clad change, a clad toe ring, and what looked like a nice diamond earring when I emptied it out my scoop, turned into clad when I cleaned it up. :'(

Being from the Cocoa area, I don't know if you'd agree with me (if you've hunted this area), but does this year seem to be slower than the previous last few years? :'( At least as far as good finds??? I usually go out every weekend (beaches and parks), and this year has produced nothing but snake eyes or clad. Maybe the higher cost of gas had people staying at home more. Just thought I'd ask.

You may have something Trash, I hunt the W. Coast (live in Tampa Bay) and the beach finds this year were, well sparse to say the least. Seems like there aren't as many people on the beaches (which would = less being lost and hence fewer finds). Yep, I would say you are correct in your asessment.

I'm from Brandon originally (military/retired over here in Cocoa). I haven't really searched the beaches over there yet. Only a few parks. Had some luck there. Looks like however, we (as on the east coast) are not the only ones who are experiencing lack of digs. I had to change my tactics and try the parks over here. Anyway Kevin, hopefully our luck will change this coming year. Good hunting. ;D

I am in Melbourne and have been trying to hunt the beaches up and down the coast as much as possible, until lately. The red tide has been so bad around here Plus the extreme build up of sand that I have had to find some land sites to hunt. The red tide effects me like a terrible allergy. Hunting on land is a real challenge due to the abundant amount of aluminum in the ground. I have had some mild success on the land sites however, but really have to work hard for what I get. Have to go slow with a small coil and only dig the big VDI numbers. Not much chance of finding gold rings, but at least it is a place to hunt until the red tide and sand problems go away. I do hit the beach when the wind turns around, but only two rings in the last three weeks, one gold/diamond and the other is silver.
The land sites produced 3 silver in three days, apx 4 hours per day. Today I got skunked. I will post two of the silver and the ring below. HH Highwater

highwater,

I can relate to the Red Tide. I've been trying to search the inland areas. Not having too much fortune. Seems like you're getting the better of us though. Hopefully the toxic levels are decreasing. I just heard on the news that there has been water testing to determine how bad the Red Tide really is. Lets hope the news is good. Anyway, great finds and good hunting highwater. :-\

;)NICE FINDS HIGHWATER WTG SLOW GOING HERE ON THE WEST COAST MEAGER FINDS TO SAY THE LEAST Guzz1
