With those two whatever they ares on the bottom, it kinda reminds me of an anode they attach to the hull of a large boat or ship to help prevent corrosion. You didn't say if you found it near water. However, they are usually made of zinc and aluminum, but look like lead.

Yeah, I didn't say where did I. Actually, it was right near third base on an old ball field. In the grass between home and third in "foul" territory. Appears to be lead, very soft, pretty heavy for the size, (half a pound!). The two things at the bottom are some sort of cushioning. Sort of rubberized. Not near water.

That help any?

Perhaps a weight from the foul ball line marking machine? (the type that looks like a really narrow lime spreader)

That's just as good an idea as any I could come up with, I didn't even know they had weights! LOL

Thanks!

Oh, heck yeah, the light weight (cheap) dry line chalkers we used would jump around when the hopper was too low, so I used to just throw a bag of game balls on the handy shelf it had which was hard when I was doing the soccer fields!
No part of this is true, I've never used said apparatus, nor could I find such a weight in any picture online. :)
