Hey all. I didn't detect much since my last post but I still ended up with a few goodies from my grandma's yard, which is surprising considering how much we've hit it. I found a nice 1865 IH and a 1920 buffalo. Also got a 48-D dime at another of our heavily hit sites.

And we hit the Berg some yesterday. I didn't get any silver but got a decent 1907 v nickel in the same hole with a 1926 wheat. Also got a flattened penny with the Lord's prayer on it. And only 1 clad quarter, 1 clad dime, a 41 nickel, and about 60 memorials..and 51 wheats. Also got a coin (I think) that I can't make ANYTHING out of. Same size as a penny.

Great hunting Nate love that V am yet to find one here. That trail out to the berg looks like a spot me and one of my 14 year old twins(Max) hunted at an old ferry landing last week. Do you guys wea long sleeves and jeans?Boots? We didnt hunt the fey landing very hard at all mainly for fear of snakes,it was in cental southern KY and we really werent dressed for it at all. There were these broad-leaf weeds everywhere about chest high and if they touched any part of your skin it started itching,it was awful. What tips could you give me to tell my twins to keep them motivated in real tough areas like that? Or is it just the finding of stuff that keeps ya going? I remember about a year ago you were using your dads old detector an ace or something then you started using the DFX,did your interest/finds/concentation incease quite a bit when you started using the new machine? Im sorta wanting to get a better machine fo at least Max,who is really interested in MD,hes got a Garret 550 now,my old machine, but when we hunt old trashy areas I feel sorry for him but those are the kinds of places I like to hunt. How old are you? Im wondering if it would be worth it for me to get him an upgrade yet,he got the Garett for x-mas or maybe I should let him get better with it first? Shoot

Nice V Nickel and post Nate! Congrats and HH, Mike

Nice job Nate, keep up the good work.

Thats some really nice finds Nate!
Why do you call it the iceberg?

Keep safe and keep diggin'...

Thanks all!
Shootist, that trail in the pic is...well, the trail. Most of the areas we hunt there are either not as thick with foliage or just woods. I wore long pants cause of the flies/bugs and so that I wouldn't get all scratched up. As far as hunting tough areas like you describe, I would think that it would be much more huntable in the fall/winter/spring...being easier with some of the brush gone. There's places around here that are virtually unhuntable right now that we easily hit early this year.

I used the Whites Classic 3, which I really liked. I don't think my interest/concentration increased merely from me switching to and using the DFX. What really kicked it off was when I started putting faith in the DFX.....cause I was pretty disappointed with it for a while. I think you gotta be familiar with your machine and believe that you can do good with it. Maybe just see if Max really wants to try a different machine and if he's willing to learn it and all.
I hope that helps...I'm sure others could give you some helpful additional advice. Good luck to you guys and HH!

Thanks...that's explained in the post in the Best Of. Basically Dan correctly presumed on his first trip there that his finds were only the tip of the iceberg. HH

Dude, way to go on the wilver! My buddy ole' pal, Paco, found an 1865 Injun yesterday in the field of Ed's. Mike the "Bolt Lube Dude Near Ed's Field" watched us make these dang mighty ole' recoveries.

Oh, send my kind regards to your father. :D

HEY NATE!!!

Very nice finds....as usual, and good luck with that mystery coin. Are those like, toy trucks you found in your grandma's back yard? Very cool. Nice V-nickel (see, i can say that because I know what it is!!! I'm learning!) And I have to say I'm proud of you for not passing out at the berg. Even the waist high grass might actually be worse than James's back yard. :o (<shocker> considering I didnt think that was possible) Nevertheless, I can take it. You just wait, I'll take you down!! :-[ Yes, be afriad...be very afriad.

Your best-est friend,
Jill

Nate,
Thanks for the post and pictures. Congrats on all of your coins. You guys amaze me every time you post. I need a "berg" of my own. ;D
I'm glad you explained what "berg" meant. All this time, I thought you guys were talking about PittsBURG. Now I really feel dumb. :P ;D
Great job,
MM
