Like mentioned, I decided there is no reason not to do some dimes each week, so I have done 3 boxes as of late. I have found 2 silvers so far.... a 1955 and a 1953. I am curious as to what you dime searchers expirience is with dimes. What would you say your average number of silver(s) per $250 box is... Just curious, because I do not see myself continuing with dimes if I am looking at 2 silvers per 3 boxes...

happy hunting.

I'm in Indiana and I average around 1 per box with my record being 5, the worst skunk streak being 3 boxes. They are easily the most consistent way to obtain silver in this hobby. Unless you're in an area that hasn't been cleaned of halves.

The way I see it, you're less likely to get skunked on a Dime Box, but with a 40% Half being worth about 2 Dimes, you get a lot less Silver from Dimes. I probably average a bit over 1 Silver per box. I consider anything 0-2 to be a normal box, anything 3+ to be a good box(for Loomis boxes). Sniping Silver in Brinks Dimes or breaking open Loomis rolls? The way I see it, there's more Silver in Loomis rolls, but they take longer to search, the Brinks rolls have less Silver, but search faster. I always order in Halves, but on non order days, I sometimes like to run around the county collecting Dime boxes. One time I spent the whole day in downtown Salt Lake, then finished in West/South Jordan for 12 Silver Dimes in the day.

A while back I snuck up to your state and found someone's half collection at a bank. My best find yet. Hope it wasn't in your territory! :dontknow:

My average is 2 per box, my worst skunk streak in 3, my best is 5 dimes/box
I usually find more silver asking for CWR and loose halves while I am picking up dimes.

The reason is as mleblanc said:
one 90% silver half (11.25 gm) = 5 silver dimes (11.25 gm)
one 40% silver half (4.6 gm) = 2 silver dimes (4.5 gm)
Certainly better than war nickels (1.75 grams silver)

But the dimes are dependable and my kids love edge checking while the watch TV

I have been averaging about 1 silver for every $100 of dimes searched for machine wrapped and about 1 silver for every $50 for customer wrapped. I suppose this is because many machines reject silver.

I'm in Indiana too.

While $6,500 in Brinks netted absolutely nothing in silver, I was averaging one dime per $135 that I searched...that is, until I recently hit an $1,800 skunk streak, then found one dime in a String box, and had two more skunk boxes after that.

Im averaging about 7 / box. I have had a box with 11, and a great box with over 60. There are amazing boxes out there and I rarely get skunked. Typical box is about 1-2 silver for me. The great boxes have really brought my average up.

I've only searched 9 boxes to date, but have only netted 3 silvers, or 0.33 per box. If the halves around here continue to be skunky, I'll probably up the dime search and hope for some better long term results.
