I’ve done several hunts the past few weeks, it is harvest season and the fields are wide open. Did several new fields and all I can say is I know where not to hunt, LOL. Did some exploring locally, this castle is about 15 minutes from my house, no detecting here.
I stopped by an archaeological dig site at another castle close by a few weeks ago, one of the students had just dug this conglomerate of iron. Was probably collected and placed in a sack, was found at the bottom of a castle tower foundation. In the middle is a crossbow bolt tip from 1420-1430.
A mix of finds. Religious medallion, silver ring, cross with wood inlay, partial musket ball, watch winder, copper coin from 1816, weight in the shape of a cube, maybe late 1700s. A small black glass bead.
Obverse of the medallion, I have not seen one like this.
Reverse of the medallion, lower legend looks like “Munchen 1960” appears to be older than that.
Close up of the weight, hallmark looks to be a double headed eagle so maybe Austrian, late 1700s.
Went to the castle where I can detect to see if they had moved any dirt around and they did. Made a few nice finds then came a crowd of people. They were having an open house since they had just finished building a large gazebo and rest area with a view. Questions started flying and I showed everyone the bolt tip and spindle whorl and explaining what they were. Told them the bolt tip is from the early 1400s and the direction the castle was attacked. Then came one of the castle club directors with my archaeologist friend, we had a good chat and I left, too many people. Crossbow bolt tip, silver coin in poor condition and a spindle whorl.
Close up of the silver coin.
Reverse.
Hunted a few lakes, battery money is always good! Around 12 Euros ($16.50), A GDP medallion, Gewerschaft Der Polizie or Police Union. A small brooch with fake diamonds, a tiny B that may be gold. Fireman’s uniform badge, and a little Amercican clad.
The small B.
The stamp, thought it was 14KT but now I’m not sure.
Stopped by the castle Friday for a quick hunt. Weather was terrible and the wind was wicked along with rain but, it was an awesome view. Managed another bolt tip in a tower foundation. HH, Mike
