My buddy Dan and I managed to squeeze in a hunt on Tues between the 1" of rain on Mon and the 2 additional inches on Wed. We started out in an early fog at our cornfield site that has produced 8 colonial silver coins and a few coppers. Since the remaining part of the field had finally been mowed down we concentrated our efforts there even though it has already been hit fairly hard. But relics were still popping up at a decent clip. We decided to change things up by early afternoon by moving on to 2 adjacent sites that we've hit before, including one where Dan scored a nice random cob. We didn't get skunked in these fields either, but nobody was able to pull out a coin. However, I was able to dig a couple of interesting pieces. One of them is a large brass item shown in 2 views below. I've dug the base to this before (with the square hole), but not sure of its identity, but I suspect it may be furniture related. I was also able to recover a very small apothecary weight, probably 18th century. Not sure what the symbols stand for, and I can't really make out the stamped image next to the "C". An interesting lead seal with some small yet intricate designs was also dug. And lastly, I found yet another flat iron. That makes 2 of them that are awaiting their turn in the electrolysis tank after that huge colonial andiron finishes up. Me, Dan and his father will be giving it another try tomorrow, although I think we're going to have a very muddy experience. But that's fine as long as we're diggin' some goodies.
