I may be able to buy some silver coins in a few days and wanted to know what folks think are good asking prices for the following coins. I realize there are a lot of variables when it comes to high quality - but I wanted to know in terms of non-key dates and junk silver. Is there a good site for this? List prices that you would pay for each of the junk silver coins below. Thanks!

Junk Ag:
  • Barber dimes
  • Merc dimes
  • Roosy dimes
  • Barber Quarters
  • Standing Lib Quarters
  • Wash Quarters
  • Barber Halves
  • Walker Halves
  • Franklin Halves
  • 1964 JFKs
  • 40% JFKs
  • Peace Dollars
  • Morgans
  • 40% Ikes
  • ASEs

This changes day to day and varies state to state and coin dealer to coin dealer.

woah that would be way too much typing, try coinflation dot com.

personally I would not feel bad paying melt.

I tend to buy in lots, pull out what I need for my collection, and sell the rest. So, I don't want to buy "junk" coins for more than spot since I know I can usually get at least spot pretty easily but it's harder to get too much over spot. That said, sometimes you can offer 90% of spot and get it. I'd love to pay less but my best opportunities for a deal come when I am dealing with someone who doesn't understand the value. In those cases, I don't feel right taking advantage of the person. I will tell them a fair value and then what I will pay. I can still buy below spot this way, but in this case the seller is unlikely to take a huge discount to spot.

I pay over spot for Peace and Morgan dollars because I know I can sell these over spot if I need to.

And in my area you cant find junk for melt- its all over- premiums all around- since all lcs charge it all regular sellers also charge it- normally its between 105% and 108% melt for all junk- if I can get it at melt im all over it-
as an example right now a dime is right about $1.62 melt and most places are charging $1.75 per dime
So to answer your question in my opinion if you can get melt for junk you're good-

-------------------------------------
just keep stacking, just keep stacking, stacking stacking stacking

Right at present I'm paying 16-1 and no more. If you're buying junk silver and need to make a profit there's barely any room to make money at that price.

I agree with Gunner 45. A dealer will pay me 16 to 1 right now, so that's my max price for junk silver.

Another version of the math is- for every $1.35-1.40 in face value is 1 ounce of silver. Give or take type of coin and wear-(not including war nics and 40's). Count face /1.35 x current spot- then make an offer. Times face value is good for single or a few coins individually- but you'll get better deals if you buy the whole pile- all denominations and then cut a little off the spot price as the first offer. Use 1.35 to give them a good price- or use 1.40 to get yourself a good price -or if they are quite worn...
PEACE

I wouldn't mind paying up to melt if I had the cash. I haven't found much to buy for under spot though.

I have recently been buying from individuals in my town when I can find them and paid 75% of silver melt value. That is significantly over what the shops around here are paying. So far the sellers to me have felt they got a fair money for their coins and I thought I did OK.

Up here in the middle of the state they are paying close to spot. Although selling online is higher. Spot is at 16.08X face right now (At this minute) and Nucleo is at 16.02X face on the BID. So just under spot. If you are giving 75% of spot, buy as much as you can. And let me know of the rest, as I'll pay you a commission on top of that. :-)

Thanks all. This is great and gives me a good range. I'll let you know what I find.

I can get rid of 40% rolls for about 65 bucks right now and 90% rolls for 170. I wouldn't pay more than 75% of spot but that's just because I can find so much at face

Sure, if yer stacking silver, finding it at face value is great. But, for those stacking pounds, roll hunting just ain't gonna cut the mustard. So, deals close to melt aren't bad. With the cheap silver prices today, get it while you can.
