A friend of mine found this and it was so unusual, I took a picture and thought it best to tap some expertise here. Its a rough made copper disk, hand cut and hammered and hand decorated. The pattern or design is only on one side and is very unique and detailed. Please forward any ideas or suggestions.

Try getting the weight and measurements. Maybe it was once a coin. Beyond that it may be a mystery about the etching. That said, ain't them mystery finds exciting?!?

Any information about where this was found could be helpful . Something about the spiral pattern at the top of the funnel shape reminds
me of a tornado - just seeing things ...

It's a flat button

Agreed, it looks too thin to be a copper. I've found a few CT coppers that were similarly thin, so perhaps someone turned a worn one into a button, but I would be willing to wager its a dandy button that lost its shank.

On first impression, it looks like a primitive rendering of a cornucopia, with a sheaf of wheat

Curiously, I did find a Rev War Loyalist version of a coat button that depicts a cornucopia and a sheaf of wheat.... and the words King and Constitution.

Maybe this (cornucopia and sheaf of wheat) was an understood Loyalist icon.

DANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG NOW THERES A INTERESTING FIND ....
