Really old horse shoe & coin

Found a few coins today, but I washed this one up really good. It's a 1899 Canadian quarter. Kept digging nails so I was about to give up when I saw it shinning through. Those guys were pretty far south to drop that one around here.

I was thrilled to find the horse shoe and halves also. I just moved to this state and county a couple of years ago, but this where my great x3 grandfather planted his roots. He was the only blacksmith for over 100 miles, then preached on Sunday. To think this maybe something he made is really special. It's going to be a lot harder to clean though. The other things are a broken gear, and what appears to be part of an old broken iron kettle.

After the coin, I think I'll go back out for another hour or so.........

Re: Really old horse shoe & coin

Hi Peasweet. Nice coin and relics. You should go back to that same spot and learn what nails read as on your detector. Then dig everything else cause there should be a lot more old coins. Matt

Good finds peasweet.

When you can make connections with family history, makes it all the better.
The halves you talk about are actually oxen shoes.

Thanks, I'll go back out to where I found the nails. They were underneath a tree. Also oxen shoes? How old could those be? Guess those were used to plow these old cotton fields that used to be here.

He was Baptist. His son, my great, great grandfather went through this county then moved to SC where I'm from starting over 60 churches before he died. He would build the church, find a pastor then move down the road and start again.

SweetPea what state are you In? I must have missed a previous post. Those are great finds and the thought of your GGGF making it adds all the more to the hunt also.Is there any other history on the land you own.do you live in the original structure or are there more on the property. Let us know, sounds like a great site and place to call home.HH
