Pretty sure it's silver, but it totally crudded up. Dollar size and a small scratch on the edge shows silver. Black, brown, white and grey built up heavily. Suggestions on getting it clean? Electrolysis on the dollar ( or reale)?

From a second site. Also got an extremely early US Cent. Green beyond recognition but the face faces RIGHT, so it's real early. I have permission to go to a house and farm built by the French and Indian War. I found this cent in the 200 acre field, a civil war period brass equipment buckle and a .577 3 ringer. Near the house it looks like everything got BURIED. Only modern stuff in the first 10 inches and tons of it. Suggestions? (Besides a dozer, that is?)

CONGRATS ON YOUR OLD FINDS! :occasion16::blob9::occasion16: Please update us when you find out what the old black dollar is - nice mystery now. Andi

Pics? Please & TY

Will get pics after 1) church and 2) trip back to the field. Found an indian scraper in black flint there too. Got permission for the whole property.

If the black one is a "cookie coin" just hit it with a spoon or something to break the crud off. And then send pics because this thread ain't no fun without them.

I feel like that sometimes (times a wasting) good luck hope to see some pix in the future!

Can't wait to find out what you found - the presence of the early copper has me hoping your large silver is early as well !

The copper is a US 1794 large cent, fairly toasted. But I'll take it. It's one of those "now look at it this way with the light over here types", but you can see the reeded edge, the "7" and "4" and the line on the top of liberty's bust, plus you can make out a few letters. The other is still unknown. I was out at the same spot today (that produced the 1794) and all I got were some handmade nails and two brass buckles of the uninteresting type. The gold coloration on the larger "coin" is an optical illusion. It is grey, black, whitish beige and is going to need an electrolysis bath. It is the size of a Morgan dollar but does not appear as thick. IMG_0468.JPGIMG_0479.JPG

Looks............Odd...............HH

I'm going to start an electrolysis bath on it later this week. Back to my job as a troll guarding my assigned bridge tomorrow. The orange in the pic is from the "stupid" camera.

Decided on a lemon juice bath. The big guy is definitely silver and not US. I'm guessing Spanish but all I have from an overnight bath is a head.....I'll see how it looks by evening.

My "good" camera is still not operating right. I took this rather icky picture this am of the progress. Still can't really see what it is.IMG_0481.JPG

GREAT FINDS To me at least your cent look's to be of the Draped Bust type ( cool in any cond, IMO) & can not wait to see how the silver? turns out ,good luck with the camera. Davers

The silver is a Carolus III Spanish 8 reale. Reverse is toast and no date on obverse. Can't tell the mint. I forgot to put it back in the lemon juice this am. Maybe it will look better in the am. Salt water chews up coins.
