So yesterday i was at a late 1800s house with my friend..towards the end of the hunt i pulled out what i initially thought was a token of some sort. The front has an advertisement stamped in it...JAS S. BRADLEY/FINE PICTURES AND MIRRORS/GILDER AND FRAMEMAKER/154 Wm St. NY/CHEAPEST IN THE CITY....then i look at the coin a little closer and realize it's stamped on a 1814 silver 2 reales!! I guess mr. Bradley was known for stamping advertisements on old silver. I personally think it's one of the cooler finds i've made!

Local history mixed with cross Atlantic silver - gotta love it.

That gets my banner vote. That is one you will remember for the rest of your life. Way COOL. :icon_thumleft:

Great find! Gregory Brunk's book, Merchant and Privately Countermarked Coins, lists numerous counterstamps from Bradley, but none with this particular configuration. The closest I see has the "Cheapest in the City" stamp below "Fine Pictures" and above his name and address. With your permission, I'll forward the pics to Brunk.

That is one cool find! Way to go! :icon_thumright:

Nice save. I'll put my banner vote in too. This 2 real had the same counter stamp and realized $977 at Stacks.

Very good price. Most of these stamped tokens don't seem to get that kind of money. The NYC connection certainly doesn't hurt.

I'd sooner find that than an AU 2 reale.

Me too.

This is also the longest (in terms of words) that I have ever seen. I would be interested to see what date it is. Most Brit ones are circa 1830-80ish.

That is the nicest counter stamped coin I've ever seen dug here at this site.
It must become Banner!

I'm nominating banner too. This is a great, rare find. Are you going to do any research on Mr. Bradley?
