Reale question....

I see where people find Spanish Reales from ship wrecks and such....but since they were legal money in the 1800's has anyone ever dug any up with a detector (not on a beach)? The cob type. Dan.

Of course people do, but you have to be hunting a site that dates back far enough
to find such things.....

I found a number of old Spanish reales but no cobs. These were found on my vacation forays into Virginia at really old sites and incredibly deep. Cobs are posted from time to time on some high end forum sites and as has been mentioned above are usually restricted to colonial sites in the east.

I found one out here in northern california dredging.I found 5 pieces a gold chain in the am and the reale in the afternoon.Had a hole drilled in it but what the heck,after 44 years+ a detecting I finally found one!!!Oldest coin find yet.Tons a au 2 u 2-John
