'Contemporary Counterfeit' is the most correct, but fake is not far of the right word, because in it's time it was a fake or non-legal tender.I wouldn't call this a "fake," but rather a "Counterfeit." And it is an OLD counterfeit, which is great news. No reason to modern fake a coin like this. I'm sure this was made in the 1820s or 30s. Many of the 8 Reales that are dug are counterfeits. Hill Billy in Kentucky has dug FOUR counterfeit 8's. As the largest denomination silver in circulation, it was counterfeited quite often. Very cool find--even more cool than a real one in my opinion, and great that it has a lot of detail to it still. Congrats, Buck
I will call this one solved ! Even thou this is my first post I have been reading T-NET for about a year now and certain members posts always stood out .Whether it was their finds, knowledge, or it was interesting to read. Seems like I know everyone personally who responded to this thread. What a great place. THANKS AGAIN !!! BURLYBOBYep, looks like a white metal silver plated contemporary counterfeit. I would be just as happy to find one of these as a genuine 8 reale.
