Vote real. Reason? A few years back almost every other vendor at the swap meet I was selling at had some pieces one guys whole stall was amber. A lot of the stuff was really amazing! Seemed most of it was coming from somewhere in Russia as far as anyone would say. Never could figure out who the supplier was. Everyone I talked to thought I was trying to squirrel in on their business. Good eyeball find!

Real amber floats. Drop it into a bowl of water. Also the hot needle test should produce a piney smell.

Didn't remember till this morning! There was this old boy that had a couple pieces in his stall. If you showed any interest, he'd pull this tray out with more pieces. He'd go through this ritual of unwrapping it like he was unwrapping the holy grail. The whole scene was hilarious!!! It never occurred to him that a lady four stalls down on the other side had amber necklaces, bracelets and some huge pieces with several insects and a whole table of smaller stuff. Just to be a jerk, I'd walk by stop and make him go through the whole ritual just for laughs. One of the other sellers told me he didn't care if he sold anything he was just there to cop a peek when the ladies were looking at stuff on his table! Come to think of his tables were lower....... :tongue3:

i think it is copal. a few years back ebay was flooded with fake amber with insects in them. real amber with such an inclusion would be pretty expensive.
