Looks to be a 3 pronged candlestick, but why that would go on a button is anyones guess :icon_scratch:

What does the reverse look like? You should always photo both sides of a button, if you want an ID?

Your button is depicting a trident sign and it looks to be pewter, sorry that's all I got. HH :icon_thumright:

Crossed my mind as well, but why the large base where it should have been pole like. ie. where the fork mets the pole/staff it widens to a triangle shape, not a thin attachment

Looks like it might be a navy button. It looks like an anchor on it and its been in the ground a long time. Possibly civil war?

I was with him when it was found ,there is no back from what i remember .

what does that mean? A picture paints a thousand words.

are you saying it was a two piece & the back is missing? or its a 1 piece with no backmark or???

Whatever remains of the shank attachment is helpful in identification :wink:

There is no shank left just rotted out hollowness. Will post picture of reverse soon anyway. Thank's for all the help and responses had a family emergency and have been away for a while.
