Real Old Button?

It is so old it is cracking and close to falling apart. I can not make out the design so I am hoping someone with better eyesight or knowledge will know more.

Looks to be a 3 pronged candlestick, but why that would go on a button is anyones guess

What does the reverse look like? You should always photo both sides of a button, if you want an ID?

Crossed my mind as well, but why the large base where it should have been pole like. ie. where the fork mets the pole/staff it widens to a triangle shape, not a thin attachment

Looks like it might be a navy button. It looks like an anchor on it and its been in the ground a long time. Possibly civil war?

I was with him when it was found ,there is no back from what i remember .

Whatever remains of the shank attachment is helpful in identification

There is no shank left just rotted out hollowness. Will post picture of reverse soon anyway. Thank's for all the help and responses had a family emergency and have been away for a while.
