My new DFX arrived today. I had previously downloaded and read (and re-read) the manual from the White's website. I also bought a copy of Jeff Foster's "Digging Deeper with the DFX." The DFX came with a video from Kellyco and, of course, the factory manual. I have to say Jeff's book is the handiest... it seems to me that White's should have hired him to write their manual.

Naturally, it was raining all afternoon so I never got a chance to take it out today. But I have tomorrow off and will be out with the DFX for the morning. I'm about to add Jeff Foster's "general purpose" program and the "D.S.M." programs to my DFX in case I get brave and want to try something other than the presets on the first day. ::)

Hopefully, I'll find something interesting to post.

Good hunting,

Grats on an excellent purchase bob. The detector and the book are both very sound investments.

I got to spend most of the day with my new DFX. My buddy and I went to a spot I found on an old map. It showed a road and a few houses in an area that is now empty woods. We found one place just before we had to leave. (And it wasn't one of the home sites shown on the map.)

The cellar hole was completely full of metal trash! I carefully checked out the cellar walls and fireplace for any possible cache... no luck. The only thing I found in the cellar and area surrounding the house were a few spent rifle cases. They were the only thing that gave a steady, stand-out signal in all the noise.

I should have sat down and did some block editing on my program or tried the "learn reject" to try to eliminate the wild signals I was getting from all the rusty iron and steel. Next trip when I have more time.... I really hated to leave, but my buddy had to get to work. I may go back on Sunday and try again with a "high iron trash" program loaded on the DFX. There are at least two more house sites in the area that we should be able to find.

When I got home, I ran my DFX around the yard for a few minutes. I just started detecting a short time ago with my first machine, an Ace 250. I was doing pretty well with the 250 around my yard, finding two nickels and 18 pennies in the few short times I was able to get out. Today, with the DFX, I found my first two dimes --deep-- and another penny.

I think I may have been passing up some diggable targets. I was running the popular "DSM" program. I was getting some good tones, but the Signagraph was barely, or sometimes not, showing a signal at all. When I decided to try digging one of those good tones that wasn't accompanied by a good bar on the Signagraph, I found the first dime. Next time out, I'll do more digging. :)

I'm excited about the DFX and can't wait to get more proficient with it. The Bullseye II pinpointer I got in the White's promotion with the DFX worked like a champ, too.

Good hunting,

Hey Desmo, Me and a buddy hunt an area similat to yours, and I think we just found the secret. I use xlt and he uses dfx. I have been there with him around ten times. The most I have ever found in a day there was about 2 coins and other misc items. Today in 1hr and 45 min. I found 5 wheats dating from 1910 to 1941. All we did was use the smallest coil you can find. I used the 5" hothead, and he used some tiny elliptical (oval ) coil, I think it's the 5" also. He found an Indian head penny. Our site has crazy amouts of nails, and scrap metal of all kinds. Lots of brass copper, you name it. I have been using larger coils there just to cover more ground,(site used to be a logging town with 5000 people. Now its just woods. Give it a shot and let me know.

Looks like a fun area to hunt.

Thanks for the tip, vwayne1. As soon as I recover financially from my DFX purchase, a small coil will be bought! ;D

Thanks again, and good hunting,
