I would agree with the thought that this very forum is cutting off our nose.... shooting ourself in the foot.......and loose lips sink ships. quotes come to mind.

But I personally stumbled on the CRH'g by chance 3 years ago and wasn't even aware of this site till just last week. I was driven by a chance discovery of a Ben Franklin half I got at a bank three years ago.
( see mojo's story on this site) and have always collected coins. and was aware of the silver and gold prices climbing.

This site has tauhgt me alot already. I love all the topics some of which I started myself just this week (or reserected) and the quick answers and responces I get.

I do like reading all about everyones good fortune. and am somewhat envious of a few of you.

I don't think it has really hurt us, but improves our technique's. I do not believe any one stumbles across this forum and decides to become a coinroll hunter unless they are allready visiting this site for other reasons. And allready have a treasure hunting mentality.

I'll give you this much it surely is encouraging if you ever thought that thumbing through rolled coin from a bank and looking for valuable coins was stupid or a waste of time. (My brother in law thinks I'm a nerd...LOL.... I am not. DUDE I ROCK) but he still gave me a handfull of halves 90 & 40%'s and 3 silver quarters just yesterday because I talk about it so much. He figured I would appreciate them more than he does. He also said he's mad at me because he now can't stop checking his change whenever he gets some...LOL (I think someones turning into a nerd..LOL) :tard:

On the otherhand. in Contradiction
I do not own a metal detector but have always wanted one and may end up owning one soon, now that I've seen some of the cool stuff the MD'rs are finding. So (in contradiction) I guess this site is going to get me into a new hobby that I know I'm gonna love. But like I said I've always wanted one.

My story is similar.. I searched rolls on and off for about 20 years before I found this site... unfortunately for me they were almost always pennies or nickels since I thought all silver was removed from circulation. I realized it wasn't about 6 months to a year before I found this site.

Note: I bought a MD last spring.

I don't think this forum has much influence over the total number of CRHers out there, only a very small percentage.

Please don't mark coins. The one you mark is one someone might need for their collection. Don't look back at what me and some others call / say about coin markers. You might take offense.

I think the largest percentage of would be CRHers go out and try it, but after going through them all, maybe getting skunked and having to re-roll them all (like I have to do), just think it's not worth the hassle.

Unless they get lucky and get a good score, that is.

For the record I do not mark coins as a practice. But I did a test mark of about 12,000 half dollars a year ago to see if I was just re searching the same coins over and over again. I have not gotten anyback yet and would not destroy a good coin, nor would I return one into the wild.
I do get black dots here all the time some of which are NIFC and proof's imagine that. I also get a couple lettered PW and some red checks or slashes as well as blue dots. that's why my test mark was a red dot in the ear.
I apologize if this has offended any one but I had a need to know. I do feel better knowing I'm not getting my own recycled dumps. well at least the 12,000 that my kids marked for me.

Hey coinrollhunter, don't worry about putting a red dot on the halfs. If someone does not already have a 71D or any other half for their collection, they can pm me and I'll send them one out of my next box. Some people on this forum just like to have temper tantrums, and call names over the marking issue. Good luck and HH, Gpurs...

Maybe someone who needs one doesn't read this forum, found one, and thinks whoever did is an idiot. Not all coin collectors read this forum. There are always 2 sides to a story. Don't think that just the people on this forum are the only coin collectors in the world. Hows that for one of your so called tantrums. Oh, and HH.
