Re Police Badge?

Hi!

Argee again. Remember the Poliice Badge? I'm sending you the Picture for easy identification. The marking is not Fordshire. Here is the exact markings in it. It has a crown and Markings STAFFORDSHIRE +LUTHFERS G R S and inside is a KNOT and Nr 80. We found this item in a shipwreck which at present we are conducting archeological excavation.

Can anybody identify this badge so it can help us identify the shipwreck?

Good call, trk5capt!

It's an early 19th century shoulder-belt, or crossbelt, plate of the 80th Regiment of Foot (Staffordshire Volunteers) of the British Army.

According to (Military) Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons by Major H. G. Parkyn, OBE, "Information as to plates worn by the 80th is scarce. The oval gilt plate of 1800 was probably worn until 1815 or later. It had the design of '80' below a Stafford Knot within a crowned oval inscribed 'Staffordshire : G. R. : Volunteers.' "
