RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

Hey gang,
Peg Leg sent me 2 photos of some of his coins and asked if I would post the picture of 4 of his gold coins.
So, here you go Peg.....

Do you want my opinion off line?
I will hold off.....

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

I find the coins very interesting and am looking forward to your expert opinion Trez.

If authentic, my guess is they were possibly salvaged by the indians from a shipwreck or found on the beaches, and they attempted to melt them down and hammer them into jewelry?

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

I dont know much about gold coins, but I was thinking the same thing. I am also awaiting your opinion Trez. Interesting.

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

I also was curious. Obviously deformed and defaced coins- one with a hole in it. Are the black markings significant or fire related? Attempts to melt the coins at too low a temperature?

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

O.K. Trez,
gdaddyflex said that you thought they are fakes. I did not read anywhere you said this but if this is what you think then SAY SO.
I have not cleaned a single trinket.
I feel that these are unique.
If nothing else I will sell them as scrap gold and forgot about them.
I was planning to sell the trinket with the hole in it on EBAY AS a Gold Trinket made from a Gold Coin.
I also wish to add that there is NOT an Expert anywhwere in the World that can say one way or the other that this Gold Trinket was NOT made from a Gold Coin.
Who made it is anyones guess but when you compare the markeings on the face of this trinket and the markings on a ll Escudo Gold Coin they are the same.
I am not going to argure this point.
I did have an assay done and the gold content is the same or very close to what the gold in a ll escudo coin would be.
The dark sports are what appear to be rusted iron which could have been caused by hammering on a rusted piece of metal of by using a rusted hammer.
Like I said before I HAVE NOT CLEANED A SINGLE TRICKET. But I was thinking about an acid bath to remove everything that is not gold.
I also feel that I do not need to send anything to an EXPERT to determine if these trinkets were hammered from a gold coin.
Thanks for you concern.

Peg, what did you find with them? I guess you have confirmed it was an Indian site?

How much are you asking for them (only one)
if you are selling them anyway

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

My friends I AM wanting to sell the one with the hole in it BUT I will only sell the four that are shown above.
If you want to make a REASONABLE OFFER you can contact me by PM and we can discuss it one on one.
I can also meet with anyone and show you the four trinkets and you can then judge for your selves (before they are cleaned).
I do not have a thing to hide.
I will also bring the LARGE silver ingot that weighs about 5 pounds that I recovered from a melted iron pot.
Thanks guys.
ALL OFFERS WILL BE HELD STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.
I can meet anyone at the Holiday Inn at Cocoa Beach between 9:00 am and 10:30 am this Tuesday or Wensday in the Restaurant.
Thanks again.

Re: RE: Peg Legs "Gold Coins" any thoughts?

Coin cleaning question:
As you can see in the above photos the gold trinkets are in a very rough state. Everyone but the one with the hole in it.
It appears that there are RUST spots but this can only have gotten there by using a rusty hammer to beat the gold with. This embedded rust particles into the face of the gold.
IF I was going to clean this rust away without harming the gold could I use deluted sulfuric acid?
OR
Just leave them alone?
Thanks
