Hello everyone. I'm Edward Lopez and during the '90s until 2008 (maybe later) I went by the handle "Silver Fox". As a quick intro, please visit what I think was my last thread on April 27, 2008 - "Silver Fox's Views of the 1st Tri-State Cloves Lake, Staten Island Fling": http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...oves-lake-staten-island-fling.html#msg1117285
The reason I'm here is because of my not-so-great health. When I started metal detecting in 1979 while living in the San Fernando Valley next to Los Angeles and until my retirement in the late 2000s my health was excellent thanks to my THing activity. Now, I'm going to turn 81 and my walking comfortably suffers, I can't run, my speech and handwriting have slowed down and my future doesn't look that good.
I don't know if returning to metal detecting in New York City's Riverside Park is the answer to better health but it's a new thought for me and I'll know for sure when Spring/Summer arrive. I'm not going to do it for the finds 'cause I think I've recovered almost every coin left in the park since I think I've found every silver coin (and little gold) that was ever dropped. I'd rather detect in Central Park where there is still a ton of treasure to be found but the Parks Department doesn't allow it. I retrieved more than my share in gold, silver and lots of old coins including a 1787 Connecticut Copper and a 1848 blue bottle. The Parks Department does issue a permit (not sure as of this writing) but it's for lesser empty parks including Riverside.
I've owned many detectors including the legendary Teknetics Mark I "Ltd." (red and black). Now, I'm again considering a Fisher M-Scope F5 but at ebay they're going for $500-$550. I'm hoping for a good deal such as a recent sale of a near-new with headphones for $195 shipped.
I'm interested in reading everyone's adventures but I'll prefer those from F5 owners. Talk to you later.
