I've actually been keeping track of this stat this year. I do a very low volume compared to many others though.

For halves my ratio is 1:1,750. I've searched 7 boxes so far.

For nickels my ratio is 1:1,667 and 1:1,316. The first one is for silver the other includes buffs and V nics. Only searched 10 boxes of nickels.

I'm going to start dimes next week too

Dime ratio per box: last year 2014, avg was 1.6/box., this year 2015 only at about 1.3 so far 2 months in.

Dimes, 1 per $150, $125,000+ searched.

Halves, too many solid silver rolls have skewed my numbers.

2012-2014 Half Dollars: 717 boxes ($358,500), 832 silver coins

That comes to about 1 silver coin per 862 coins searched. The trend is up and down. 2012 was the least productive while 2013 was the most productive.

I suppose that if one searched a regular amount in any given denomination/s over enough years you really could chart this ,
but( and it's a big BUT) - there is no way to account for the random way that silver coins are put into the mix - period !
