Bet that blew his ears off!

Thanks for posting those photos Terry, there must be quite a storyline behind that discovery.

Jim.

Just like the Butte Nugget, a cheap detector would have found it just the same. :)
Thanks for sharing Terry.

Wonder if it was really found in Mexico or not a little bit further north on the other side of the border...

Wow Terry! What an amazing find!!

I nominate that nugget and suggest it deserves a place over on my other thread on the prospecting forum dedicated to Big North American Placer.

Do you think you can post it there?

All the best,

Lanny

What a nugget. Not sure I fully believe the story on how it was found, but it sure is a beauty.

I've heard of some amazing finds south of the border in Mexico on private ranches that American hunters have had access to in the past. Very similar to deer hunting expeditions that ranches offer down there. The geology is no different than the mineralization we have here in the Arizona goldfields. The gold bearing ground keeps running further south regardless of the international boundary. However these days I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a $10k Minelab down there without a military escort [emoji53]

It was on display at Quartzite many years ago and the pics do NOT do it any justice at all as amazing presence in first person. The 16 to one mine brought a football sized acid etched mass to a gold show in Auburn many years ago. Bob Doelker,RIP, and I got to hold that amazing HEAVY monster. Didn't even realize it was cutting into your flesh till returned to them and worth the pain as once in a lifetime experience...John

To be so fortunate! I'd probably have a heart attack!
