This is my first time on this site.. so I apologize if I broke some type of rule.

My mom is a HUGE Gone with the Wind collector. Over the years, I've helped her organize her collection. However, while out at a random crafts fair in the country, I stumbled across something in someone's garage. I had never seen it before, and convinced the owner to sell it to me. Now I just got to find out what it is! I have my thoughts, and know what the guy told me.. but want to save what I think so I don't influence what anyone else says. I took photos while holding it for a size reference. It's very heavy for it's size (I assume it's iron).

Anyone have any clue what year? Or what type of printing press this type of plate would be used in?

Letterpress. Newspaper really started switching to offset in the 60s I believe... so I'd say surely pre-60s and probably more around the time of Gone With the Wind.

yeah I'd go with the printing press plate also...odds are it is made from lead as back in that era after the plates were finished being used they'd be melted down and reused for other printing plates, etc...

That one was probably snuck off the premises by an employee so you were lucky to stumble upon it as it could be a one of a kind item.

Thanks everyone for your help! The more info the better... I think it could be rare as well since I can't find anything like it anywhere.

I would say it dates the time of the films release. Cool old garage find.:icon_thumright:

Since it says the movie won the academy award, I would expect this was made days after the award.
