Same site where I found the countermarked coin the other day. Found a small 1/2" button/cufflink that I thought was plain. When I brushed it off it had a very detailed design. The closest thing that I can find online (screenshot below) is in a PDF published by The 18th Century Material Culture Center. It says it was possibly made to commemorate the marriage of George III to Charlotte in 1761. The text "Fide Et Amore" means something like "by fidelity and love." I can't see two hearts on mine, so I don't know if they are just worn down or what exactly is going on in the center part.

If you have any ideas about the little lid-thing, please share.

Thanks!

Really like the sleeve button. Congrats

The other item looks vaguely familiar - But struggling with what it is.

Oh man, I like that cuff link! Very cool.

Same here. Whatever the cap-thing is, I feel like I've seen one before, but I can't remember.

That site keeps producing. The cuff link is really cool, I hope someone on here has some background on it.

Mystery item possibly the business end of a candle snuffer?

1 o'clock.....a hinge. 3 o'clock.......plumbers lead.. 9 o'clock.......also a hinge, but, for a folding ruler.

Thanks for the ID's.

I was stumped by the rectangular piece. I think it's the one that you are talking about but it's a little above 9:00. I agree. It does look like it could be from an early folding ruler or something like that.

The piece that looks like a blob of lead is actually a bent and broken pewter rattail spoon. On the back you can see the rat tail. It's had notches carved into it for some reason. Decoration?

The 9 o'clock item I was referring to is not there rectangular piece, it's the one with the eye in it, which I thought might be the hinge point.

Oh yeah. It could be. That one has had me puzzled too.

I've been trying to research it... In the 18th century there were marriage tokens and medals that often featured hands shaking or clasped. I think it's definitely commemorative. It's very similar to the example that celebrated the marriage of KGIII to Charlotte, so maybe that's what this one is too. Maybe on mine, the two hearts are the negative spaces in the thing that looks a little like a crown.

I did see a medal that commemorated the unification of England and Scotland and part of the design on the reverse looked similar to my button. The text was different but I suppose "By Fidelity and Love" could apply to two nations. Or not.

Great colonial finds!!

Your "cap" item is from a Betty whale oil lamp. Filler cap.

IMO of course.
