Awesome that's one cool button there.

This button was given to me by a friend and I was wondering if anyone knew the history and value ?

That's an interesting button. Can we see a pic of the back? Also, if it's a period button it would have to be 1700s as George I did not become king until 1714.

That's a drilled eye shank on your button which probably dates it to the late 1700s. So it was probably a George III issue.

I'd say part of a George III Cufflink do to the low profile shank. Someone would probably pay $20 for it.

IP nailed it, its a mid-18th C Cufflink (or at least half of 1 pair) $20 would be twice as much as the UK price, but the market is over your way.
