Finally found something worth showing off while out this past Saturday.
Obv reads E. R. BROOKS / ELGIN, / TEXAS rev reads GOOD FOR / ONE / LOAD.
According to the Texas Trade Tokens catalog it's considered rare.
I've done a bit of research on it and have found a couple of references to Mr. Brooks in 1891 and 1898 but so far haven't found anything in regards to what business he was in. The token catalog also lists him as having a good for five cents token, so for now I'm assuming the mercantile business. I've emailed the Elgin Historical Association asking for any information they might have on him or his business. Hopefully they will be able to help narrow down when this token would have been in use.
At first I assumed the good for one load might have been in reference to laundry, but is actually in reference to local deliveries. I'm hoping it ends up dating to use of a horse drawn cart, but am really excited about it none the less.
