Random relics 1800's what are they?

A relative that teaches collage US. History is coming in the morning to maybe shed some light on the area I have been searching. I am trying to do my home work first. Thanks for any help. I have seen the buttons here before resently.

Top photo from the left, looks like half of a large staple, the next item I think would be attached to a longer handle, and is for catching chickens by the leg, much like a shepherds crook. Next picture the item on the right is a hook that can be driven into a beam, or tree etc. Third photo is a broken bit of picture frame, tin type would be my guess. I'll leave the army buttons to the experts.

Thank you for that information. That hook for chickens had me baffled. I can see exactly how that would work. The boys have chickens here. I need one of those. I was thinking that the third picture may be some type of buckle but the metal is very thin and brittle. A frame for a tin type would make sense.

On the buttons, although I'm no expert, seeing the backs (or knowing the back marks) on the two eagle (U.S. Army) buttons will help date them, but they're somewhere in the last half of the 1800's. The other two (flat on the front I presume?) are somewhere in the first half of the 1800's (though possibly just a wee bit earlier), civilian unless something on the front shows otherwise. But I'll now leave it to the experts to be more precise.
