I'm no gun expert, but I can image having a removable part on a ramrod.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a hat cord end or maybe the inside of a cord acorn or tassel (without all the thread wrapped around it). I have no idea if there are little brass thingies inside those tassels... Just a guess...

Here is a piece that I found where other CW relics were found. I'm wondering if this could possibly be a ramrod end. It seems to be made of brass and is hollow as if it was stuck onto the end of something. Any thoughts?

I readily admit I don't know what it is. But my first thought was that it might be a rivet for a boiler.

both of mine are like that, except mine are of a modern vintage, and subsequantly blind holed (hole don't go all the way through), actually looks more like the jag end of the ramrod, but i can't tell if it's been threaded

one of mine is wood, the other is fiberglass...metal would have added unneccesary weight to the weapon. they were heavy enough as it was without that.

I'm not sure myself. My Hawkins muzzle loader has a brass end on the ramrod that's what made me think of it. The inside of the one in the picture I found is not threaded.

could part of shaft to set muzzle loader ball in ball before firing

starters are usually small balls of hardwood with a brass "nipple" embedded inthe ball, much smaller than what you have and solid, the end of the "dowel" side has a solid brass end on it as well. used to start the ball down the barrel, then the ramrod is used to seat the ball/cotton against the powder charge, pull back hammer, seat cap and make lots and lots of smoke :) (only use the finest FFG in mine, no pyrodex, takes away from the effect)
