Yes this is my own reply to my post.

I can not believe that 40 people have read this post and not one of you has replied, but then again that is the way folks are in Raleigh. Just a bit too self absorbed.

Ya, John i know where your comming from. I quit trying to converse with them a long time ago. I'am south of you about 35 miles in Sanford.

I read the post but don't live in Raleigh and have never hunted there. Just curious as to what the thread is.

Well put me down as reading the post. I live in Burlington and have never hunted in that area. If I could help I would.

I have hunted Broughton High. A lot of trash. Never made it to the front of the school. I might try it again.

I don't live in Raleigh anymore, lived there growing up in the old historic N. Blount Street area...the area they are now trying to redo (Blount, Peace, Person and Polk STreets)
How I wish I could go to our old homestead and MD cause my brother, myself and my friends buried jars of change and stuff all over our yard. lol. But, its a parking lot now I think. :(
Honestly, within Raleigh city limits, I don't know places to MD, unless people let you do their private yards.
I am trying to find some old homesteads outside Raleigh...country areas...hoping people will let me MD their fields etc. I had hoped to MD around Falls Lake, but found out its illegal because its COE owned, so that was out.
If I come up with anything, I will let you know. :)

Just thought I would reply, since I have just started back MDing since getting laid off. I have detected Broughton High, and found a couple of wheats, clad coins, and a ton of junk. This was several years ago. My experience with Dix was several years ago as well. I found a few interesting items, including a couple of CW bullets, and a old Raleigh bus token. Mostly now, I hunt old home sites and construction sites. With all the houses that are going up, it isn't hard to find a nicely bulldozed area that is relatively easy to hunt. I've found a few coins, buttons, and various old homestead objects. My oldest find, however, came in my own backyard. I live on an old home place myself, and found a 1773 VA half penny not 15 feet from my back door. NE Raleigh, including the Rolesville area, has plenty of new home construction sites.

Well I knew if I kept looking i'd find someone I knew in NC....how's it going John?....didn't even know you metal detected....i'm trying to get into it now, been wanting to do it for years but just didn't make the time....I'm trying to decide on a Tesoro now and hope to get started in a few weeks....we'll have to get together to hunt and smoke a good cigar.

Has anyone here done Moore Square? Same for Broughton High?
I've been to Dix campus numerous times and never find anything. Last weekend I went into the "playground/ball park" area and found several coins around the swings and the ball diamond. Other than that, Dix seems to be dry. Any comments?

That's cause B|lker and I found everything, already...

Never tried Moore square though. Probably a good place. Maybe 3 or 4 of us should hit it together. You know... safety in numbers.

I am new to TN.com I really have no idea where to hunt around Raleigh. A few years ago I was at a farm near Bentonville CW battlefield and found some good stuff. Bullets, buttons, silverware, etc. Do you need permission to hunt at Dix? and where is it located?

Ok, I get to Raleigh now and then. Myself I like to hunt the not so obvious sites. I love to look where houses were, and now are not! There are a ton of em. Just have to do the homework thats all. Google earth is your friend! I wish I lived closer, I would hunt Raleigh every day! Raleigh has a ton of old history that is just waiting to be found. 2 weeks ago my wife and I had state budget meeting where I snuck off to the old fairgrounds where I found a real nice 1898 v nickle and a nice musicans button from the civil war. I'll be comming back in 2 weeks for another hunt and I cant wait! Raleigh is the spot
