Good lookin stone! I do a little biz with some dimensional stone quarries in the western U.S. If they use a rock drill I'll be calling on them. I'll try and gets some shots on my next visit to some of the quarries. We in Colorado have the Yule Marble in Marble Colorado. It's an interesting quarry. Some Italians are running it now and they ship huge blocks back to Italy as some of the pure white isn't found much over there anymore they tell me. In the past I delt with some French Canadians with a company called Polycorp I think it was. I would visit them in Granite Oklahoma. We did what we could to communicate, as I didn't speak French and Monsieur Josie couldn't speak much English. Those Canadians guys did have missing fingers from the many years of being a quarrymen.

Hey there TR, yes...it would be very interesting to see the pics. Are those marble layers very far down...or closer to surface?
We sell to a few company's around Montreal, Quebec as well. Their 'truckers' that come (11 hr drive)...are always good guys!...out the gate with 40+ ton of stone! ;)
Heh heh....yes, good joke with those digitless boys.....I say...gimme a "high five" or highfour..or three" :)
(all in good humor) of course.

The yule marble is on the side of the moutain and they block it out piece by piece. Only 2 blocks they can get on a drop deck simi trailer. This is a link to the quarry Marble Tourism Association | Yule Marble Quarry Also this sculpture was hacked out of the Colorado Yule. I just just love the touch and feel of fine polished marble, especially when it turns out like this fine art. I believe this was done out of one single block.

Thanks...definitely will check it out....tomorrow ;) think we're about 3 hrs ahead..on the great lakes from your time. Heavy eyes and quarry in the morn. ;)

:hello: Hi! Love the fossils! Does the quarry slow down and halt during the winter?

Yeah, most don't but we do shut down eventually during winter old digger...depending on amount of snow, frozen stone/freezin temps. We're a small quarry with few 'out buildings' compared to the large quarries around us, so..production wise it's not worth it.
Actually...enjoy the little 'time off' to recharge anyhow! :)

Sounds good, at least you can catch up on some other things.

Yes, had a few calls from my old 'stompin grounds'...so may be doing that Damn 3-day..2000 mile drive again..back out west to Alberta! ....just a little north of you! ha! :)

Well, don't have too much fun! And have a safe trip.

Thanks, won't be till a week or two...so hope I don't head into one of those "Alberta Clippers" that are famous for coming across from the Rockies to the Great Lakes...West to East during winter months.

The marble quarry runs a cable saw and they don't drill much. I'll maybe go buy the place this next week. I'll try and get some pictures before all the snow comes down on them. I do need to make a visit, as it's been some time since I made the last one.

Funny...in a sad way, in Canada too...lots of unique high priced/high end companys end up being sold/in the hands of other countrys...but, then again...It happens the same all over the world!...."THee All Mighty Dollar";/
