In Canada as well as the United States theres bound to be many empty railroad tracks never to be used again. In Canada, the early railroads had a station house every 7 miles, of which, in the middle of nowhere there are countless well maintained; sort of, brick buildings, still used by the outdoorsmen.

Alot of "spur" tracks run off the main lines and lead to a wealth of articles ranging from old mines, towns, canaries and whatnot; including as i have found, old trading posts and the gold dust and coins under the floor boards or where "they" used to be.

even the tracks themselves are worth money if you have a way to remove them. I have entered buildings in old ghost towns that have an inch of dust on the floors and unremoveable furniture. I found a manor house of an old orchardist and the masontry fire place and hearth brought me several thousand dollars from a treasure house 80 miles away over rough terrain. They had the means to hire a helicopter but needed the information.

Why I posted here was because native villages and fur trading posts abound in and around these places. I have discovered ancient burial grounds that even the native americans did not know exist not to mention caves and cliff faces with paintings and countless artifacts ranging from before and after the "europeans" arrival. On the Fraser river north shore i stumbled over a spanish steel sword and helmet approximately 90 miles up river. There are remnants of spanish mining on Vancouver Island and up the west coast of British Columbia as well as a sunken ship.

Welcome to the site........now lets see some of those artifacts you have found.

did i happen to mention; nope, guess not that im a medical marijuana grower and activist. pictures and videos are dirty words for me. i like to read and listen to others. i dont have to prove anything by taking pictures other then those for historical societies. mostly i use GPS. canadian natives can also get very upset by cameras.

Kewl finds , Do You know anything about a small 5 inch or so Brass It was copper couted and looks like it has a sunflower look to it, But I found it near the Railroad tracks here in New York, It says " Majour House #4 Union N.Y. " I know it's Union Endicott N.Y. but dont know if it;s a Railroad Item? Could have been a Keychain or something thgat hung on a hook... Thanks Garry

I have metal detected many miles of the old railroad track on Highway 9 in New Mexico. Like you said, every 8 miles or so there were little one or two building stops set up but are now gone. BlackJack Pershing was chasing Poncho Via around back in the 1900's and the army set up camps along the tracks. Many metal finds are made, some coins but every once in awhile you would stumble onto a stone arrowhead while walking slow. I have found an old camp site or two also and picked up some pottery sherds and a few mano's.

I am just the opposite of the original poster and take many photo's.

When I show arrowheads that I found while detecting many times someone will ask, you found that arrowhead with a metal detector. I just let that one slide!!

People laugh at me for hunting the tracks. Let them laugh!! This point was found on an old track that was dozed through to make a drive way. Found it in the mounds of dirt. Twitch has been there with me, and found stuff as well.
