I've been detecting a POW work camp near a railroad here in my home town. I haven't found anything concrete yet to identify it as the actual location. So I'm trying to date some of this stuff. Any ideas at all? Any help would be appreciated.

The tag is stamped R R then J P ...then a number. It's been mentioned that possibly the JP stands for Japanese Prisoner but I wouldn't bank on that. It could be Junior Passenger or a location or some railroad related term.

I've seen other people with these buttons but trying to age them is difficult. I assume they are simply off a train related pair of coveralls or work clothing.

This might help with the overall button.

Yes that's cool thanks....any age info on any of those? Mine appear to be #10.

Most of them are thought to be in the 1908 - 1910 range, perhaps a bit later. Certainly pre 1915.

Steam engine buttons bring a certain history. I was lucky enough to watch the last steam engine go over the pass with my Grandfather who worked for the Rio Grande. I love seeing them posted and wish I had more than a few. Great attachment! And really great RR tag. That sounds like a great place to detect.

Where did you find that thing? An old book or something? I found one a few weeks ago just like the on on bottom, second from right.

The tag is great and it looks like it says something else. Clean it off with a toothpick or something and show us what it looks like then. Thanks

Really? Thats awesome. I was thinking a little later on mine, but I had no clue (Overalls were used for a long time by RR guys back then).
