I scored a new permission in my neighborhood and gave it a good old fashioned cherry picking, focusing on the quarter and dime signals and deeper penny signals. I had been eyeing this property that I drive past every day for years. I even knocked on the owners door about 9 years ago but no one answered. Thursday I caught him mowing the grass and he gave me permission. He also mentioned that someone else had just asked him about metal detecting the yard. Yesterday I did see the filled in plugs from another digger, but there are plenty of signals in this yard and I was digging constantly.
Here are the better finds from this new permission. If anyone can provide any info on the Pennsylvania Lines button, that would be appreciated. I guessing it's circa 1930-1950.
I expected more silver to turn up, but I only got these two dimes.
I also got these three religious medals. Maybe the next one will be silver?
While I did get 1889, 1893, and 1899 IHPs and the 1916 dime, most of the coins were modern.
Saturday I met up with Thad (PA dirt-NC sand) and we hit one of my mid 19th century permissions that had been recently plowed. We weren't expecting to find too much since I have ben pounding this site off and on for almost 20 years, but we were hoping Thad might find his first arrowhead. While we were there, the farmer showed up and smoothed the field in preparation for planting, and this helped us find targets.
Here are my finds. Two IHPs, one is 1864, the other is toast. A little watch winder with some kind of design, and a nice suspender clip.
This site gave me a new appreciation for the lowly suspender clip since I have found so many here.
This latest one will knock one of the others from the Hall of Fame frame
Well that's all folks. Thanks for looking and good luck out there.
