Rail coupler hitch pin?

Detecting at an old railroad station site and came across this 12” pin. My inclination is to assume it’s a hitch pin used to prevent couplers from opening.... However, the diameter wouldn’t appear to be hefty enough to stand up to the torque?

Any guidance would be appreciated.....

Much to small in diameter to be used as a train coupler. It does appear to be a double tree pin for a horse drawn wagon.

Here’s a 5/8” x 1 ft long telephone guy-wire lag eye screw:
