Picked this up at an antique shop about 25 years ago. I was told by a dealer that he thought it was period (War of Northern Aggresion) But he did not think Marse Robert had signed it himself. Another dealer at the Marrietta War of Northern Aggresion Relic Show said it was a cabinet card by a photographer in Alexandria Va, and that Marse Robert had a number made to give to those that would visit his home. They both asked me to sell but as I only had 15 bucks in it I thought I would keep it.

A good likeness of a Compassionate Southern Gentleman. Who was called with great respect by both sides, General... Who ever received it recorded when and where on the back.

What is the name of the person on the back? It looks like Mary A? 'whatever.' If we get her name, maybe it will help. Bramble is a good one with names; hopefully she'll see this post. Super-Super pic, Breezie

PS: As my signature says, Every time I watch Gone With The Wind, I think we're gonna win this time!

Even if it is not his signature, the fact that it was presented by General Lee hisself makes it special in my book.

Breezie, my wife wants to know why I watch all the Civil War programs on the History channel. She says, "You already know who won"! Monty

The 'R' and the 'E' don't look right, but as Breezie says, if you can ID the person who it was presented to that might go a long way in seeing if it really is worth anything. I would keep it, myself...just sayin'.....
