Quik school hunt...1st dig...nice

I went to the school down the street from my house.Davis Thayer elementary in Franklin ma.The very 1st hole i dug revealed this beautiful coin which i haven't even looked up yet.I was way to excited and wanted to share it immediately before i cleaned it up.....any thoughts or value?........only date is his presidential term of 8 years1789 -1797

It's a George Washington Dollar coin. And it's worth...um... a dollar.

Nice find - especially in the first hole!

look at the edge of the coin - the date is stamped there
 

yeah, they're in circulation now. they're like the scajawea coins, but newer. good find though.

Coins only worth $1. They are gold plated at first but once have been in the ground for a long time. They turn into coppy color. I know this because at my work we have some of these in our tills pop up at times and since I am a coin collector/ metal detectorist. I usually look for these types of coins.
 

Yep, those dollar coins bring the clad totals pretty quick. I like digging them up on the beach, still have the original goldish color.
