Quick Hunt Today

Got out today for a quick hunt at a new area that I got permission to hunt. In an area that was a military base until after WWII. Fort Oglethorpe, GA. An area where I grew up. I found several fired 30-06 cartridges, a dropped stripper clip of once live blanks, an infantry officers collar insignia with the company letter missing, a curb chain connector, and a condom tin. I wonder what they were really up to?

That's quite a tin..35 cents....wouldn't it be something to find unused packets still inside? I don't think I've seen another post where a condom tin has been found How will you display it?

Those rounds and stripper clip are from either a 1903 WW1 rifle, or a 1903A3 WW2 rifle. Here's an 03 with your clip. Gary

I'm guessing whoever was shooting blanks probably didn't need the tin. Cool finds!

The property I live on was once used used during WW2 as a Calvary training site... I found a clip like that with a couple spent shells still attached. Not being into weapons, never looked into what it was. Thanks for posting!

MetalArcSC Fort Oglethorpe was a Calvary Post from 1902 until 1946. it was home of the 6th Calvary. Prior to 1902, the area was used by troops in 1898 to train for the Spanish American War before heading to Cuba. A lot of history in the area. And the Chickamauga Battlefield is just outside the city and i have found a lot of civil war relics in yards as well.

Nice finds! Neat historical area you have to hunt. I did a quick search on the tin. 1938 was the only date I could find. I’m just using my phone though. Saw a few in better condition selling for $145-$200. People love antique advertising pieces. Maybe if you clean it up some, you could get a few $$ out of it.

Was also a German POW camp for many years and had around 4000 prisoners.Behind the old VFW was the big dump for the calvary. Lots of china and tons of ammo.

3 Merry Widows were round aluminum packages for 3 rubbers. They were some times used as change purses once the contents were used.

Those are some nice military finds. That tin is different. I have only found the 3 Merry Widows tins before. Never seen one like yours posted. Neat find.
