These were all found on a known campsite on the bay. First one I know is some kind of artifact. It has been polished smooth and has some hammer damage on both bottom corners. The flat bottom has been ground down to a smooth flat surface but only on 1 end of the bottom. Second peice was found on an eroded bank where we have found points and pottery before. No idea could be natural but gotta ask since it was found on a site. Last could be natural but same site so got me thinking. It is kinda shaped like a tear drop that is thick on the top end and tapers down to thinner on the wider end. Also been smoothed down but water can do that too. Only thing is it was about 100 yds from the river. Thanks for checking them out and let me know what you think.

Hi bsit 361 , ...your first piece looks to have some use / wear ,.???
Your second piece ,..well, if I was to have found it on a "area of habitation" [not site] out here in So. Cali ,. I would look at it as a possable heating / cooking stone .

Cali Heating / cooking stones ,.... and comal's [ Spanish/ Mexican for a griddle]

This type of artifact is fairly common out here,.related to are Cali acorn culture . The quintessential form of these stones is tear shaped with a "banana" type profile ,..much like yours . your stone [from Pic ?] looks to lack any spalling from use ?? I don't know if such stones where used in your neck of the woods ,..but cooking with stones wasn't unheard of in many cultures ??

maybe ?? .........Joel

bsit1361 , ...was just think'n ........did you post , some time ago now ,.. a green/ blue stone metallic like,.. was about 8 in. long and was somewhat a narrow tear shape ? remember it was found on a island / tidal area ??,.....back east ,.........somewhere ... :icon_scratch:

If so , could we see it again ,.. thanks ....Blindpig

Hey Joel,
The 1st one definetly has wear and some hammer marks on corner. I know its some kind of grinder or something just never seen one in that shape. The cooking stones I havent heard of around here but Im allways finding out new things. Dont know if I posted what you were talking about but Ill go back through and look. Check back on this post or Ill post something with your name in it. Anybody got a comment on the tripointed little stone? It came off a well populated campsite.
