I am looking at possibily getting a V3i and looking at used or new. If I buy used are there things I should look for or stay away from? Are the new machines the same as the ones sold 4 years ago? Sometimes during production a company may make small improvements in screen, reliability, etc. and wanted to know if it was best to just buy a new one or if a good deal comes up to buy a used one. If you know of a dealer that has a good price on a new one please send me a PM.

Thanks!

Try a MXT Pro. Awesome machine

Hello New Digger. Looks like a good machine and a few hundred dollars cheaper. I see you live in Utah County and I also live here so maybe we can hook up sometime and you can show it to me at a park or another location that is good for checking things out.

I have one of the first that was originally a vision....It is now a v3i. There are no hardware changes that where made on the detector. The first d2 coils where not the best but they took care of it and replaced mine and a friends that went bad.

If you can afford one than by all means get the wireless headphones and get the v3i. You will be able to run a mixed mode stereo program that really wakes up the capabilities of this detector. The vx3 does not have this program or feature.

Thanks for the information. Do you know if the headphone jack produces a stereo signal or do you have to have the wireless headphones to get the mixed mode stereo sound? I do plan on getting the wireless headphones and paying for most of it with the $200 bonus bucks that you get when purchasing the unit. It seems like it takes about a month for the process to happen and could use my wired stereo headphones until then.

I have a V3i and i bought mine used but lucky for me it had never been used and i got the full warranty because I was the one that registered it. The dealer I bought it from stripped the headphones and sold them separately but I paid less that $1000 and a new one without headphones is $1349.00 I think. I love the detector but it has so many variables it will take a long to to master it. I have found over $102.10 in 27 hunts this year.

I would buy a used one if it was used less than 1 yr but if it was used I wouldn't pay over $800 for it because you never know how anyone treats their detectors.

I recommend not buying a V3 which has been upgraded to a V3i. Whites says they are exactly the same but I know from reading feedback and PMs from other owners over my 4 years that the V3 upgraded machine has difficulty if you ever need to do a master factory reset, and then it has to go home to Oregon or a closest repair center.

As long as the V3i had some warranty left, or you bought one without warranty at a low enough price...Whites is great about customer service.

The V3i can be testy though, so be ready for a challenge. I still doubt mine on some days. It's wierd.

Thanks for the info. I found a local dealer after looking on White's web site. I went there and they had a V3i without headphones in stock but he was selling it for full retail at $1499 and would not go down. I like to support local dealers but the price difference along with local sales tax would put it $300+ more than from Kellyco

That is to high. Shop around. If you local dealer won't deal with you then go elsewhere. It will be worth it and save you a fair amount of cash. I would check more places than kelly co also. If you call a vender they can give you a price that they can't on a website. Plus kelly co extras are junk.

You can get a deal here with one of the supporting vendors. My go to guy gas been Ed at Treasure Mountain Detectors. I didn't buy my V3i from him but got it used from a member for $900 with 18 months left of warranty. Good luck!

This has been as interesting read.

I just bought the v3i from kellyco because I ran into the exact same thing with my local dealer. Be warned though, the $200 credit from White's cannot be used for the wireless headphones. If you go to kellyco's site follow the link to the Shopper Dollar catalog page and it will list 3 different headphones, but none are the wireless. The $200 credit can only be used on items in the SD catalog, and you have to pay for the shipping on those items as well. I can't vouch for any of the dealers here, but I am sure they are all good or they wouldn't be here for long.

Bought a used one here in the for sale section with 3 different coils and the wireless headphones. Should get it this Monday.

Are you sure about this? That doesn't sound right to me. I'd contact Whites. They would let you use the credit if you bought the WHPs directly from them. I highly recommend going wireless - you will not want to go back!
