Hello, this is my first post here. I have been a hunter for about 3 months and have had pretty good luck, about 80 halves 15 are 90% I have reached a point where I need to hunt smarter not just harder. I live in Chicago and have a question for the group. How do I know/ find out who services my banks? How do I determine district boundries? Is it even worth it? Does using older local banks have an advantage over Chase since both are so close to the Chicago Fed? More importantly does it matter what bank I order from if all are coming from the Chicago fed? I know its alot, but thanks!

in terms of ordering , order 1 box from any bank that will then see what banks get what boxes. From there you can order some from each type [ as long as more then 1 type is available] and you can see if you like 1 type over another. Basicaly the same types of boxes in the same area come from the same place. or at least thats the case in my area i believe

You are asking people to do your home work for you and give up knowledge that may be shooting themselves in the foot. You need to figure things out for yourself.

Fair enough. I was asking for ideas on HOW to do my homework. I take your response as slightly un-called for. I see people ask for and offer advice all the time, I myself am not opposed to helping others along the way. Never mind though, I need not your help.

Here is a little help. It is a little outdated but it is a good start.

DAVIS BANCORP 2100 SOUTH SAWYER STREET CHICAGO, IL 60623
BRINK'S, INC. 919 SOUTH CALIFORNIA AVE CHICAGO, IL 60612
FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF CHICAGO 230 SOUTH LaSALLE STREET CHICAGO, IL
DUNBAR ARMORED, INC., CHICAGO 4500 WEST CHICAGO AVENUE CHICAGO, IL

All of the above get deliveries from the US Mint and are in the Chicago District.

This is the kinda BS that is dragging TNET down. Who helped you, Santa Claus.

There are several good posts on here that show Federal district and what not. Coins do not come from the Fed, they usually come from a coin bank that services a specific region. That coin bank can/will cover different banks in their region, i.e. Chase, Wells Fargo and so on. They are delivered by Brinks and a host of other carriers but the coins come from basically the same location. The trick is to buy in one banking region and dump in another so that you are not seeing the same coins over and over.

This link is for the Federal District of the US http://www.federalreserve.gov/otherfrb.htm

This should get you started. Now all that you have to do is find where the district division lines are in the city where you live.

I hope this helps you in your search. Anything else you need, feel free to ask and don't let people 50CentMan make you upset, they are new to the board and really don't understand what TNET is all about.

I noticed that too. Although I can see why he was not interested in helping. 50centman is hunting in the same area.

i talked to a few armored car companies and they said that they do not own the coins they just process them for the banks, each institution has their own vault at the company and banks coins are not comingled because that would be an accounting nightmare. He also said they are not allowed to touch the coins i.e. filter out the silver, so he said keep hunting, its out there and we cant take it by law! So I think if you can find your district lines + the fact that the vaults are not comingled should spread out your repeats alot.

Hope this helps a little!

50centman, if your not on here to help others or get help, then what are you doing? We all like to give advice and take advice. Sorry, but if your in the same area as Eolson and you just don't want to help him so you score bigger, than I hope he gets all the goods in chicago and you get his dumps. He was just askin for a little help.

Eolson3,
Welcome to the forum. Chicago and the surrounding area is a big plus for you. There certainly are a ton of banks and after a while you will know the better places to search. I suggest you open a few small accounts in different bank chains, so you have more choices. Also, NEVER dump at the same bank branch where you order your coins. That's a big NONO. Spread your "dumps" around so you don't become a pest at anyone branch. If you re-roll your halves, put a small mark on the paper so you don't get stuck with them again. Always be nice, pleasant and cheerful in banks. It goes a long way with tellers. If they ask you why you oder so many coins, tell them the truth. Just say you and your children are coin collectors and are trying to fill your coin books. Don't mention "silver". Play naive on that word. I wish you luck.

That was fun. Kind of like the marked coin purist questions that come like clockwork. Allways wanted to see what it was like to stir the pot a bit. Please accept my apology and good luck to you (as long as I get to the good spots before you).

Ask a friendly teller, what service provides them with coins. It isn't top secret, the truck will pull right up to the bank if you waited long enough.
I like older banks as they have older customers, and those people could turn in older coins that they may of stashed for years.
