If there are any roll weighers in here...what weight or weight ranges for bank rolls, in grams, do you usually find silver in? My fingers are so sore from opening up so many coin rolls today that I thought I would weigh some rolls tonight and only open those that fit in "silver weight" range. I will open the rest of the rolls tomorrow morning when my fingers don't hurt so bad! Thanks for your feedback!!!

From my roll weighing experiences, I have found the following things to be true most of the time. My Red Book gives the following info about half dollar weights: 90% halves-12.5000 grams; 40%-11.5000 g; clads:11.3400 g and Bi-cen clads; 11.100 g. If you check any number of halves you will see that these are nominal weights and that there is a lot of variance individually. Remember that a gram is not a lot of weight.
Rolls of clad usually weigh between 224.2 and 226.5 grams. There may be 1 or 2 40%ers in rolls in that range but then again not. Rolls at 226.6 g and up usually have a 90%. Heavier rolls may contain multiple silvers but not always. A solid roll of 40% weighs about 230.7 g and a solid 90% is about 250.5 g.
Weighing rolls can be fun but it is not really a shortcut to Ag finds. As you can see there a a lot of variables.

I would just open the rolls, I tried weighing rolls and always missed silver after i checked the rolls. HH

weighing rolls is as useless a strategy as any I have ever seen. I bought a scale to weigh rolls, and used it twice for the purpose before realizing that it is a complete waste of time.- It adds a ton of time to your searching process, but you still have to open every single roll anyways... Doesnt take long to realize that is not serving any useful purpose.

My fingers used to get sore like that too, early on.... Keep working, give them a small rest when they hurt, it wont be long at all before you cant remember the last time opening rolls hurt your fingers... My head, back, and eyes get sore, and need a break wayyyy before my fingers ever do these days.

Happy thanksgiving.
