Hi everyone! First time poster here. I only recently started metal detecting. My parents own an old farmstead in NJ that dates back at least to the 1800's. Maybe earlier. I'm detecting with a Garrett Ace 250. So far, the earliest coin that I found was a 1927 penny; however, I did find a couple shotgun casings that appear to be from the late 1800's/early 1900's.

I came across this interesting piece, and I'm not sure what it is. Can anyone help? I was intrigued by the non-corroded emblem in the middle. If anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear from you!

Welcome.

It looks to be a makers mark, say 'S???T & CLARK'

It looks like a lid to something, I have no idea what though. What's the other side look like? Is the tab on the bottom in the photo part of a lock mechanism?
